Five Stamford artists won accolades at a Rowayton Arts Center exhibition. Three Stamford artists were awarded first place in their category for “Expressions 2013,” an exhibition of high-quality works by some of the region’s finest artists. They are Carol Gleason Burt (drawings & pastels), Rosa E. Colon (oils), and Michael Kenneth Norris (sculpture). Nancy Sutera won second place in oils and Judy Bassin Pekuik won third in watercolors. Other Stamford artists whose work was juried into the exhibition are Susan Acker, Carol Battin, Sandra Camner, Heidi Lewis Coleman, Susan Frey, Holly Griffith, Kirsti Holtan and Julie Tehrani.
"Expressions 2013," a juried all-media exhibition, continues through February 23 at the Rowayton Arts Center. Winter hours for the RAC Gallery at 145 Rowayton Avenue are 12:00-5:00 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Admission is free. For information visit the web site at www.rowaytonartscenter.org or call 203-866-2744.
The juror was Alex McFarlane, an award-winning painter, sculptor and industrial artist who is on the faculty at Silvermine Arts Center. He selected 73 works of art from 151 entries. McFarlane says, “I tried to make the exhibit as broad and inclusive as possible. In order to balance the show, the big categories -- oil and photography -- required a more refined selection. No medium or artistic category was ignored. I judged on quality and expression as I carefully reviewed all 151 works of art.“
