Through ABBA’s greatest hits, Mamma Mia! tells the comical story of Sophie, on a small Greek island, who dreams of the perfect wedding – one which includes her father giving her away. The problem? Sophie doesn’t know who he is! After reading her mom’s diary, Sophie secretly invites the three men her mom wrote about to her wedding. This enchanting and unforgettable tale of love, laughter, family and friendship is set to ABBA classics including “Dancing Queen,” “S.O.S.,” “Super Trouper,” “Take A Chance on Me,” “The Winner Takes It All,” and the title song “Mamma Mia!”
“I am thrilled to be the first theatre in the area to present this enchanting tale of love, laughter and friendship,” said Lou Ursone, Curtain Call’s executive director and producer for Mamma Mia. “When we were offered the rights to present this show back in July 2017, I immediately accepted and announced it, even though we hadn’t even started the 2017-18 season,” Ursone added. “Whether it’s your first time seeing Mamma Mia or your 10th, we know you’ll have a great time,” he said. (As of press time, the entire run is more than 50% sold out.)
For those looking for something extra special, a preview performance of Mamma Mia on September 13, will include a pre-show party featuring fabulous food from Nikki Glekas Events, wine, beer and a signature cocktail. After the show, audience members are welcome to meet the cast and crew and enjoy desserts courtesy of DiMare Pastry shop. Tickets for this VIP fundraising event are $75.00 per person.
Directing Mamma Mia is veteran Curtain Call director, Tom Coppola, whose last production was the sold out production of Gypsy. "I love working with Tom and so do all the actors - he really puts on a great show, AND he's a terrific performer himself," Ursone said. He is joined on the creative team by Caitlin Roberts – choreographer, Peter Randazzo – music director, Peter Barbieri, Jr – set design, Peter Petrino – lighting design, and Terry Hanson – costume design. Stage management is handled by Amy Ayala, Tommy DeSalvo, Joey Macari and Jan Ursone.
