State Representative Lucy Dathan (D-Norwalk/New Canaan) is leading the way to help find the First Alzheimer’s Survivor by supporting the Walk to End Alzheimer’s with her own team.

Rep. Dathan’s walk team (#CTTeam142) is set and ready to go, and she is looking for teammates to join her on October 13 at Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk to help raise funds for this organization.

“This is very personal to me, as my mother, Jacqueline Reis, suffers from the disease,” Rep. Dathan said. “I am calling on all our friends and area residents to consider joining as a team member, and help me raise funds for this important cause. If you cannot financially contribute, or physically participate, please consider joining us as a virtual participant and show your support for our team.”

Alzheimer's is the most common cause of dementia, a general term for memory loss and other cognitive abilities serious enough to interfere with daily life. According to the Alzheimer's Association, this disease accounts for 60 percent to 80 percent of dementia cases. Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050.

Rep. Dathan said, “Our financial support can make a huge difference to someone who is afflicted with this illness. Because there is no cure, research must continue and we must do everything possible to help. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease. Together we can end Alzheimer’s and find our first survivor. Please come join me at Calf Pasture Beach on October 13.”

Registration opens at 8:30 A.M. with official ceremonies starting at 10:00 A.M., on Sunday, October 13.
