Stamford, CT - Superintendent Stamford Public School (SPS) Earl Kim and the Stamford Board of Education (BOE) announced the appointment of Jennifer DeRubeis as principal of Julia A. Stark Elementary School, effective July 1, 2017. DeRubeis has been serving as the school’s interim principal since July 1, replacing former Principal Edith Presley, who left the district.
Prior to serving as the interim principal at Stark, DeRubeis was SPS director of Early Childhood, where she worked with the district administration team, families and community-based stakeholders to prepare children to be successful in elementary school. DeRubeis has held numerous positions since joining the district in 1998, including curriculum associate for Early Childhood Education, Scientific Research-Based Interventions (SRBI) teacher for K-5 students, literacy coach, Summer Start head teacher, elementary classroom teacher, grade-level leader and math liaison.
“Working closely with parents, staff members and administrators, we are confident that we have identified the right person to lead the Stark community,” said Assistant Superintendent-Elementary Tamu Lucero. “The interview committee felt Jennifer’s educational background, experience and commitment to Stark made her the best choice from among the group of highly qualified candidates under consideration.”
DeRubeis is also an active member of the Community Action Network for the Cradle-to-Career collective impact initiative, spearheaded by the United Way of Western Connecticut.
