Stamford, CT - Stamford Public Schools (SPS) recently announced Robert Ayala as assistant principal, Westhill High School, effective December 9, 2019. Ayala will fill the position recently vacated by Chase Dunlap, who left the district in October.
Ayala has 23 years of experience in education and is currently serving as the dean of students at Brien McMahon High School in Norwalk, a position he has held since December 2017. He has been a social studies teacher there for 16 years and served as the school’s interim assistant principal for two months. Over the years at Brien McMahon, Ayala was actively involved in several initiatives, including serving as coordinator of restorative practices, chair of the PBIS committee and RISE Program team leader. Additionally, he was a member of the school governance council, chaired the in-school suspension program, co-chaired the School Excellence Committee, and coached football and baseball.
Ayala holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University at Albany, a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership Certification from Concordia University and an administrative certification from Sacred Heart University.
Earlier in his career, Ayala was a classroom teacher in New Haven, New York City and at Dolan Middle School in Stamford.
