Stamford, CT - Stamford Public Schools (SPS) announced the launch of its new promotional video designed to build public awareness about the district’s mission to foster productive habits of mind, body and heart in every student. SPS and students from the UCONN Stamford Digital Media & Design Department (DMD) worked together to create a video showcasing students, activities and opportunities offered by the district. Produced by UCONN DMD juniors and seniors through the university’s in-house, pro-bono creative agency, Beachball, the SPS video features vibrant photographs, carefully selected action words and creative design elements.
The video production team, led by Assistant Professor in Residence at UConn Stamford Motion Design and Animation Steve Harper, comprised:

The UConn Beachball agency pairs UCONN Stamford students with local community organizations to identify and address emerging digital media needs with innovative and creative solutions. The team approaches the project as all effective agencies do, by first meeting with the client to identify the problem and gather information. The agency then pitches several proposals to the client and revises the best one for the final product.
Clients do not pay for the services provided, and the students receive university credit and a grade for their expertise.
“Our digital media students have amazing skills, but it can be hard for an undergraduate to obtain real world experience,” said Harper. “The collaboration with SPS enabled our students to create a work product that has the potential to influence our entire community. This program offers an unparalleled opportunity for our students to interact with clients and showcase their creativity and project management skills.”
The UCONN students worked with SPS for more six months to develop the final 93-second video, which is part of the district’s strategic plan for communication and community relations, with the goal of educating the community while improving public perception of SPS.
“Working with this talented group of UCONN students, some of whom are also SPS graduates, was a true pleasure,” said SPS Public Affairs Officer Sharon Beadle. “They listened carefully to our needs, addressed our concerns along the way, and created a professional quality video to showcase our district. I look forward to sharing it with the Stamford community in the weeks and months ahead.”
The collaboration between SPS and UCONN Stamford is another example of the Stamford community working together to maximize opportunities and experiences for our students.
The video is available on the SPS YouTube Channel and will be share at various internal and external events throughout the coming months.
