Mayor Martin Declares Snow Emergency Due to Snow Storm

STAMFORD, CT - Stamford Mayor David Martin has declared a snow emergency, effective Midnight tonight because of the snowstorm expected to impact Stamford. The Snow Emergency will require the removal of all vehicles on designated snow emergency streets by midnight tonight. City parking garages will be open free of charge until at Tuesday at 8:00 a.m.

“The Meteorologist from the National Weather Service has advised us that snow is forecast to spread into Stamford beginning approximately 9:00 PM tonight with the heaviest snowfall after midnight (snowfall rates of approximately 1”-2” per hour). Six to eight inches of snow is expected throughout Stamford. This snow event will have an impact on Monday morning travel and the morning rush hour commute. We are declaring a snow emergency now to allow residents time to prepare and remove their cars off the streets,” said Mayor Martin.

A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for our area, with 6-8 inches expected. Travel could be difficult. The hazardous conditions will impact those traveling tonight and during the Monday morning commute. Use caution while driving.

Snow Emergency

During the Snow Emergency, Snow Emergency Routes are to be kept clear of cars. Snow Emergency Routes are clearly marked with red and white signage. Vehicles will be ticketed and towed while the snow emergency is in effect. All City Garages will be open and free to residents during the Snow Emergency, from midnight tonight Sunday March 3, 2019 until Tuesday March 5, 2019 at 8:00 am. - Bell Street Garage – 28 Bell Street
- Summer Street Garage – 100 Summer Street

Stamford Public Schools
Superintendent Earl Kim has announced that Stamford Public Schools are closed tomorrow due to the storm.
Garbage and Recycling Pickup
Garbage and recycling collection will be cancelled tomorrow Monday March 4, 2019.

This cancellation will impact the full week collection by a delay of one day, concluding with Fridays scheduled collection that will occur on Saturday.

Please do not put garbage toters out until the storm concludes to prevent them from blowing into the road.

The Katrina Mygatt Recycling Center will be closed on Monday, March 4, 2019.

The Transfer Station and scale house are expected to remain open during the storm.

Alternate Parking Rules

As a reminder, on the streets designated below, alternate side parking rules will automatically take effect each time there is snow accumulation greater than two (2) inches. The alternate side parking will take effect regardless of whether a snow emergency has been declared. The purpose of these rules is to facilitate snow removal by providing adequate maneuvering space for snow removal equipment on narrow roadways.

When in effect, on even numbered calendar days, parking will be allowed on the even numbered side of the street and restricted on the odd numbered side of the street from 8am until 8am the following day. On odd numbered calendar days, parking will be allowed on the odd numbered side of the street and restricted on the even numbered side of the street from 8am until 8am the following day.
