Supermarket chain Stop & Shop said that beginning Thursday, March 19, 2020, it will start opening its stores early to accommodate its older customers.
From 6 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. every morning stores will be open only for customers 60 years of age or older and there will be a clearly marked designated entrance for them.
The company said that while it will not check IDs, it asks that everyone respects this age restriction to allow the more vulnerable to COVID-19 population time to shop. Store associates will be given the right to ask people who do not appear to be part of this age group to leave.
“We’re making the decision to offer this every day of the week to allow for community members in this age category to shop in a less crowded environment, which better enables social distancing,” said the company in its press release announcing the new hours.
Stop & Shop reminds customers of their earlier announcement that stores will close at 8 p.m. to allow associates to unload deliveries, stock shelves and for more time to rest.
