Mayor Ganim and Bridgeport EOC Advise Residents to Prepare for Tropical Storm Isaias

Bridgeport, CT – Mayor Ganim and Director Appleby of Bridgeport Emergency Operations Center urge residents to prepare for Tropical Storm Isaias and any inclement weather that may cause damage in the City of Bridgeport.

The City of Bridgeport anticipates a storm system that may begin impacting our area with scattered showers and potential for isolated thunderstorms expected to make strongest impact in our area on August 4, 2020. Are you prepared?

Be sure to charge all digital devices (phones, laptop) in the case of power outage. Build a kit: food, water, and other supplies; such as batteries, flashlights, and battery powered radio, to support your needs.

Secure all objects outside your home that may become projectiles or damaged by high winds and rain. Ie; tents, grills, patio umbrellas and lounge sets, children’s play sets, plants, etc.

If you have a sump pump or generator, make sure they are operable.

Water Pollution and Collection Authority (WPCA) – Flooding

City of Bridgeport and WPCA officials remind residents to remove any debris from curb lines and storm drains to minimize risk of flooding. In case of an issue, call Water Pollution Control Authority (WPCA) at 203-332-5550. Road crews and field technicians will be on-call to attend to flooding emergencies caused by the storm.

Bridgeport Police and Fire Department remind residents to NOT attempt to drive through any viaducts or areas that seem to be flooded.

United Illuminating (UI)

Tropical Storm Isaias is expected to bring high winds which will cause downed trees, branches and utility lines. Do not touch any down utility lines. The Public Facilities Department and the United Illuminating (UI) Company will be notified of situations as they arise. If any residents suffer a loss of electric power, they may call the United Illuminating customer hotline at 800-722-5584.
